Chapter thirteen of Isaiah demonstrates just how powerful God is:
12 I will make people scarcer than pure gold, more rare than the gold of Ophir. 13 Therefore I will make the heavens tremble; and the earth will shake from its place at the wrath of the Lord Almighty, in the day of his burning anger.
As people we always put ourselves fairly near the top of the chain - there are...
What Does Jesus Do With Sin?
agentlewarrior:
By Jared Wilson:
“The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, ‘Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!’” – John 1:29
John the Baptist commands a beholding of the sin-taking-away Lamb. What do we see in this beholding? How exactly does Jesus take away our sin?
Here are 6 things Jesus does with sin:
1. He Condemns It.
Jesus puts a curse on sin....
Then. Straight after chapter eleven of Isaiah, there’s a song of praise:
Songs of Praise
12 In that day you will say:
“I will praise you, Lord. Although you were angry with me, your anger has turned away and you have comforted me. 2 Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord himself, is my strength and my defense[a]; he has become my...

I love the juxtaposition of Isaiah ten and eleven! In ten we’ve seen a lot of destruction and death, and then comes eleven…
1 A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit. 2 The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him— the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge...

Back to Isaiah…
Chapter ten sees more raging against the people who are not walking with the Lord and it’s vicious stuff, as a lot of old testament stuff can be. It’s something that’s difficult to read about, and that doesn’t sit easy with us. We live in a beautiful post Jesus time and so we are forgiven for everything we have done and will do, so there is no longer eternal consequence for our...

Isn’t it a comfort to worship a God we cannot exaggerate?

The good news for Christians is that we are not in a Mr or Miss Enthusiasm contest. God is not watching you on Sunday morning to see if you’re singing or clapping louder than the person next to you. Jesus is not going to vomit you out if you don’t get up and dance. Carnal zeal gets you nowhere with God. Genuine enthusiasm comes not from what you have done for God, but...

So… for the people who read my blog, you may have noticed that I started talking about grace sometime ago. I was trying to start a series on it and talk about how amazing grace is. I never did. I never apologised for not doing so… (I think). Truth is, i didn’t understand it. It was either too complex for my simple mind or the other way around. I just could’t grasp how deep...

God provides.
This is something that I need to keep remembering!
A lot of stuff has come up in the busyness where I haven’t had time to spend resting with Him (or haven’t made the time). I started to slip and resented God for not making it better.
But I had absolutely no right to. I was the one who didn’t actually ask Him for the help where I needed it. I wasn’t relaxing with Him and...

Isaiah 9:6
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given.
What struck me reading this just now was the word ‘given’. Like a gift. He wasn’t lent, or handed over; he was completely given to us.
God isn’t going to take away salvation; this isn’t just a one time deal, or an offer that won’t be any good in a few weeks. It’s a gift.
God gave us Jesus and all He wants...
